Le Cafe Marly - Louvre

 

With the audio guide in hand and the earphones on, we were on a mission to absorb some culture in the Louvre. The Mona Lisa smiled at me for the third time and that's when I realised that out of the 60,600 square metres of exhibition space, I have probably covered the same 2 to 3 areas on each of my visits. Embarrassing, but nevertheless exhausting. Le Cafe Marly is just the perfect place to unwind and relax those sore feet. You can have a glass of French wine and absorb the rest of the culture with your other senses, while never having to leave this beautiful museum.

One thing I did learn, is that Le Cafe Marly is one of the restaurants owned by the Costes brothers empire. A good 40 hotels, restaurants and cafes belong to them and their extended family, and most it seems are in prime locations and popular. So, expectantly this was not cheap. But surprisingly the food was of a relatively good standard for a location that some would consider to be a  'tourist trap'.

Dessert

My chicken ceasar had a good amount of chicken however possibly too much dressing for my liking, while the omelette was juicy, cheesy and of a good portion size. The steak tartar on the table next to us also looked the business so I was in a spot of some serious plate envy. The famous hot chocolate did not disappoint. It came out in its own little serving pot and you could tell it was cooked on the stove the old fashioned way. 

The service was attentive and helpful, and for £40p.p (2 people), which also included a glass of red, a couple of beers, one dessert and an amazing view, it wasn't too bad. Definitely recommend it to soak up the atmoshphere.
